Ljubljana & Lake Bled
Inter-railing City 6
Every city we had visited so far had been beautiful and picturesque but nothing will compare to the views in Ljubljana. I feel Slovenia is often overlooked when people are booking holidays, as personally I never really hear people talking about it. Even my friends questioned the decision, when Croatia was our alternative stop. But it really exceeded all expectations.
We only had 1 full day in Slovenia, so we spent our evenings in Ljubljana and then the day in Lake Bled. This was the first day of the trip where we felt like we were actually on holiday. Sat by the lake in our swimming stuff, eating naff food at the “pool” bar. It was a very needed break from the hectic ways of inter-railing. The water was pleasantly warm too which was a bonus. With makeshift “pools” made close to the shore for the younger people, and the rest of the lake to play with, there was even a sports centre where you could hire canoes and paddle boards. Definitely a must if you can go.
Our evenings were lovely, exploring the town. We ate at the same place for dinner and breakfast. It was lovely little restaurant alongside the river. Honestly it couldn’t have got any better.
The architecture of that little town is gorgeous. The city has adopted a dragon as it’s mascot (so to speak) and in all honesty, the city seems so mythical and unreal, it wouldn’t surprise me if there was a dragon knocking about.
We decided that at the almost half way point we needed to let off some steam. And we decided to do this in the form of an escape the room. If you’ve never done one, it’s basically a room where you have to solve problems and puzzles to get yourself out, usually themed around a prison or something similar. We completed it with about 4 minutes to spare. It was one of the best 56 minutes of the holiday too. We stayed in a hostel in Ljubljana, but we still booked through airbnb. The hostel was brilliant and very helpful with booking our taxi to Lake Bled, and recommending where to eat and what to do.
