Inter-railing City 3

Berlin to Krakow was the first of our non-direct trains. We had a brief two and a half hour wait in Warsaw, somewhere I want to go back to and explore properly. We only got the chance for a brief look around the area surrounding the station but it looked fantastic. Also polish trains are great! Free tea, coffee and water for the journey, what a way to butter up tired travellers.

We finally reached Krakow at just gone 8pm and after a long day of travelling we were so eager to find our accommodation, which again was amazing. Situated a 5 minute walk from the old town, it could not have been better.

I don’t think any of us knew really what we were going to do or see in Krakow, aside from a trip to Auschwitz. That was one of the most moving experiences of my life. The whole place has such a unique feel of such sadness, and it’s so quiet. In all honesty there is no way I could do it justice in words.

Krakow itself has the most gorgeous architecture. The old town itself consists of a large square with the old market hall in the centre. The market was filled with little traditional trinkets and clothes. Flower wreathes sold on stall upon stall, made the town so vibrant. There was also a beautiful horse and cart adorned with traditional decorations which I couldn’t help but photograph.

We actually didn’t do too much in Krakow other than explore. Due to getting there so late on the first day, and dedicating a full day to Auschwitz, we were left with only 1 full day to explore properly. Despite this we had a brilliant few days in Poland. It’s such a cheap place to visit, once you get your head around the currency. We celebrated the end (and surviving) of our first week of travelling by treating ourselves to a Hard Rock Café (how british).

I'm aiming to make a site for the average person, for those less able to give up everything and see the world, but still want to. I'm here to display all the places I've been and probably bore you a bit with my life and naff photography.
